As a long-standing British designer and manufacturer of office furniture, our design team is always looking to expand our range and crucially, keep helping clients to solve their office furniture challenges.

The design team’s latest work is BX Modular – an expansive range of office storage that joins our main office furniture portfolio and gives Staverton one of the most comprehensive storage solutions on the market.

Just launched, the BX Modular office storage range comprises single and two-door cupboards, two-door wardrobes, open storage bookcases, stacking cupboards and lockers, media unit inserts and top planters, as well as credenzas and desk-height storage units. 

 

 

Unlike most of BX’s competitors, the range is available in four widths to maximise storage potential (single units in 400mm and 500mm widths and double units in 800mm and 1000mm). It also offers a wide variety of customisable components, with several more to be added over the next 12 months. 

Staverton’s decision to add office storage to its main product portfolio has been in the works for some time. Lead designer James Barke said: “Although we have designed and manufactured office storage for years, it’s always been as a special request for larger client projects. The launch of Staverton BX Modular sees us bring a full office storage solution into our main portfolio for the first time and allows us to meet the growing demand for more storage choices in the agile office.”

 

 

As longevity and flexibility have always been integral to Staverton’s office furniture design ethos, it was important to make this a modular storage solution. James added: “Modular office storage helps with flexibility for clients as it means they can customise the perfect solution for their space and needs. BX Modular components are all simple to interchange and stack as required, and as they have a standard depth of 500mm, they can also stand side-by-side to create seamless runs of storage.”

“We also know that when office furniture can be reconfigured with ease and used in different ways, it generally has a much longer life, which is far better in sustainability terms. We’ve built longevity into BX Modular and that’s very valuable for clients.”

 

 

BX Modular is available in four heights, so it can be used to define zones and pathways, bringing both structure and function to open-plan workspaces, as well as extend worksurfaces and add greater function to desk solutions, thanks to a desk-height option. Planter tops mean storage can also house a little touch of nature and bring a more interesting aesthetic to the workplace. In addition, BX Modular integrates easily with the BX Lockers range, which was launched in 2018.

As one of the only office storage solutions in the UK to comprise a media unit, Staverton BX is already standing out from the competition. James added: “We conducted a lot of research to make sure that BX Modular not only offered as much choice as possible, but also addressed gaps in the current office storage market. The media unit is a perfect example.”  

“It houses AV – seamlessly integrating a TV or monitor and featuring removable panels and a cable management void – and provides practical storage for meeting rooms and open plan spaces. There’s simply no one else offering a modular storage component like this.”

Staverton has improved its production capabilities, capacity and lead times significantly after becoming a 100% Homag manufacturing facility.

We’ve invested in five new pieces of Homag equipment in response to a growing post-pandemic shift from single workstations to larger collaborative work settings.

Ian Samuel, Operations Director at Staverton said: “Whilst many manufacturers looked to take cost out of their operations, we decided to be more bullish and invest in our factory to give us more capability and capacity. We believe this positive approach will provide a better proposition to take to the market in the post-COVID, post-Brexit period.”

Now fully operational at our Rotherham manufacturing facility, we have a five-axis CENTATEQ E-310 which is suited to making curved parts and can increase throughput, provide flexibility and improve production capabilities. Drilling and inserting capacity have been improved with the DRILLTEQ V-200 and the edgebanding process has been enhanced with the EDGETEQ S-300, the LOOPTEQ 0-300 automotive return system and the XES 200 glue station.

Ian concluded: “The new machines have improved every aspect of our manufacturing processes and increased our throughput by more than 40%.”

Building further on a 20-year relationship with Homag, the new equipment will be pivotal to our continued growth as a British office furniture manufacturer and will help us maintain our hard-earned reputation as a furniture innovator.

Residents of Rush House in Rotherham were treated to a no-expense-spared Christmas Dinner thanks to the kindness and generosity of one of the Staverton team.

Dave Roberts, who operates the new CNC processing machine in our Rotherham factory, has become somewhat of a community hero in recent months, after donating surplus Sunday dinners to the local community for free and appearing in the local paper, the Rotherham Advertiser.  

When news of his cooking prowess and generosity reached the directors, we decided to help Dave continue his charitable work. 

With a donation of £250 from Staverton to buy ingredients, Dave decided to cook Christmas Dinner for the residents and staff at Rush House, a project which supports the homeless in Rotherham.

Dave cooked up a storm with roast turkey, pork and beef, all the Christmas trimmings and his signature sausage meat stuffing, as well as trifle and Christmas cake.  

Dave Roberts said: “I’ve been blown away by how much attention this has received. All of this started because I really love cooking and didn’t want the surplus Sunday dinners I’d cooked to go to waste. It was fantastic to be able to do even more with the help of Staverton and their donation, and at Christmas too. It was a really special day and the food seemed to go down a storm.”

Carlo Delucchi, Marketing Manager at Staverton said: “We’d all heard about how generous Dave had been by donating Sunday dinners and knew he was keen to do more to help the community. We were only too happy to support him so that he could keep up his amazing work. To give up your Christmas Day to benefit others is something really quite special and we’re all very proud of him.”

 

 

 

 

 

Product evolution is an important part of the Staverton design ethos – and it’s why both the SOS sit stand desk and SL system have been given an upgrade in 2022.

First launched in 2014, SOS was introduced to the market in response to the growing need to encourage movement and promote greater health in the workplace. It was aptly named too – as SOS stands for ‘sit or stand’. Three years later we launched SL – a lighter version of SOS that still offered Staverton’s trademark durability and the innovative and detailed approach to cable management we’re so well known for. Now in 2022, both SOS and SL have been improved further to offer even greater flexibility and longevity.

One of the major design changes reflects Staverton’s wider commitment to improved sustainability – as we now have a larger number of shared components between the SOS and SL ranges. This not only aids parts availability, which speeds up manufacturing time, but also improves material efficiency and reduces manufacturing costs for the benefit of our customers.

One example is that both SOS2 and SL2 use the same square DL-19 actuators from Linak and now incorporate swappable actuator columns – which means they can start life at a fixed height, but with the possibility of easily adapting to sit stand, as needs change. 

James, Design Manager said: “The modern workplace is all about flexibility so it’s important that we make this integral to how we design and engineer agile office furniture solutions. Swappable actuator columns make it possible to give new purpose to furniture with minimal effort, cost and waste. We’ve built greater purpose, sustainability and longevity into the very heart of SOS2 and SL2 which means they will stay relevant as clients’ needs change.”

SL2 have also evolved to offer even greater cable management. A high-capacity bench cable management bridge now accepts two cable baskets as standard, allowing for more complex cabling to still remain hidden. The upstand depth has also been increased to accommodate cable conduits.

Other notable changes include giving SL2 a simplified bridge, which makes it much more economical to invest in sit stand desking and gives it a more minimalist look. This is supported further with a new cable basket and umbilical cable riser.

Tony, Design Director added: “We’ve become well known for integrating power and data within furniture neatly and we’ve always felt that office furniture should have a clean aesthetic. With an ever-increasing number of technologies in the office environment – cable management must be discreet, easy to access and secure. The additions and improvements we’ve made to SOS2 and SL2 respond to these demands, without compromising design.”

Both SOS2 and SL2 are now available in a corner desk option and with castors, as standard.
