Staverton Recertified Its FISP Membership

We are delighted to announce that our Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme certification has been renewed.

As an environmentally aware and progressive business, and in accordance with our own sustainability policies, we have renewed the FISP certification. Staverton is pleased to hold a full membership of the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme and completely supports its goals and aims.

FISP was created in 2006 as an independently certified sustainability initiative specially tailored for the needs of the furniture Industry supply chain. The programme is recognised in the UK as the benchmark for sustainable practices and focuses on a variety of issues including responsible purchasing, transportation, end of product life and energy management.

The renewal of FISP’s membership is annual with bi-annual external assessments, and all members are required to demonstrate their commitment to managing and improving sustainability. Also, to maintain the certification, companies must prove that they meet certain criteria regarding key environmental, social and economic issues.

Sustainable development is at the core of Staverton’s operations. We renewed the certification last January, in accordance with our commitment to environmental and corporate social responsibility obligations.

Say Hello to Staverton at Clerkenwell Design Week 2017

We are delighted to announce that we will be opening the doors of our showroom to unveil some of our latest product developments.

The highlight of the show will be the preview of the ‘SL’ desk and bench range —a new generation of high-quality sit-stand workstations.

We will also be presenting, as part of our new flexible working solutions, the ‘XP’ range —an expansive free-address bench system which can incorporate individual sit-stand modules.

Staverton Celebrates Renewal of FSC Certification

Staverton is delighted to announce that their FSC® C109599 Chain of Custody certification has been renewed following a stringent audit process by the governing accreditation body.

Safeguarding the environment is a responsibility we all share, and is taken very seriously at Staverton. We promote our environmental policy and strive to minimise the impact our business may have on the environment. We are committed to continually monitoring, reviewing and improving our social responsibility performance, which includes:

  • We are committed to the principle of sustainable development and will work to preserve the quality of life in the communities in which we operate.
  • We will maintain an independently registered ISO 14001 Environmental System to minimise pollution and to ensure that this policy is implemented.
  • We will comply fully with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations and codes of practice to which we subscribe.
  • We will work with the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) to trace all wood products back to their forest source and will purchase substantial and increasing volumes of independently FSC certified timber.
  • We recognize the importance of global warming and will minimize energy consumption within our business and use energy from sustainable sources where possible.
  • We will apply life cycle assessment techniques to minimize the environmental impacts of our activities, products and services.
  • We will apply the principles of the waste hierarchy (re-design, reduce, re-use, recycle) to reduce the amount of waste produced by our business, including product at the end of its life. Our ultimate goal is Zero Waste.
  • We will take actions to minimize the environmental impacts of transport movements associated with our business.
  • We will ensure that all employees are aware of the environmental impacts of their activities and provide appropriate training for the tasks assigned to them.
  • We will help to protect the wildlife heritage of the United Kingdom.
  • We will review our environmental performance annually and set objectives and targets each year, which reflect our philosophy of continual improvement.

In conjunction with this important certification, Staverton holds the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, is a member of the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme (FISP) and the Furniture Industry Research Association (FIRA).

A Groundbreaking Transformation

Staverton’s products have helped refurbish an iconic 100-year-old building for Youthscape.

Formerly a flour mill, the Edwardian building is a historic landmark in the centre of Luton. The Charity bought it in 2013, and has since gone through an exhaustive transformation. Alongside other manufacturers, we supplied products in order to transform the industrial building into Youthscape’s new home.

Staverton continues to be a leading light in the UK office furniture industry, not only for its quality products and innovative design, but also for its positive social actions. The company was chosen to collaborate on the complete reformation of the historic Bute Mills facility into a new, modern and active youth centre.

Global architecture, engineering and planning firm HOK managed the overall project and were responsible for the overall design plans. The award-winning team worked closely with Staverton and their supply partner Phusei on the reconstruction of this outstanding Bedfordshire site for Youthscape’s new headquarters.

Youthscape is a Luton-based youth work organisation that benefits disadvantaged young people in the community through therapy and counselling. For more than two decades the charity has been changing the lives of underprivileged youth.

In the past, Bute Mills fed families across Bedfordshire; it has also been a fertiliser plant and even a hat factory. Today, all five floors totalling 10,000 sq. ft. have been totally refurbished into an extraordinary architectural space. The new building will help develop new programs and turn Youthscape’s new offices into a national hub for charity work. The facility was opened in August 2016 by His and Her Royal highness, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Clerkenwell Presents At 100%Design

We’re delighted to be participating in 100% Design this year exhibiting as part of the Clerkenwell Presents space on stand CP4 to showcase our new steel/timber hybrid range ‘88’.

The Staverton 88 range has been introduced as part of our 88th anniversary celebrations. The new furniture system includes attractive desk, bench and table solutions. It features tapered solid oak legs and provides users with optional novel solid oak ‘plank’ toolbars. Its beautiful and stylish design is combined with a versatile modular structure, which allows a most efficient use of space.

The use of timber matches current trends in office furniture design but also makes this exceptional range a tribute which echoes Staverton’s woodworking history and heritage. In keeping with all Staverton ranges, 88 also includes discreet and highly functional cable management and power systems and a wide variety of screen options.

Our newest range is a great alternative to the overabundant market offer of ‘all steel’ bench, desk and table framework solutions. This elegant and sophisticated furniture system will make any office environment feel like home.

Three new faces join the Staverton team

Staverton, the British manufacturer of contemporary office furniture, has recruited three new faces to its business development team.

Tom Neely (23), Hugh Bunce (25) and Beckie Fenner-Evans (24) join Staverton as part of the company’s new graduate programme, and will work across the organisation to progress their business development and account management skills.

Tom graduated from the University of Hull in 2012 with a degree in Law with Spanish and will work from Staverton’s manufacturing facility in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

Hugh graduated from the University of Loughborough in 2010 with a degree in International Relations and spent two years working in financial services before joining Staverton. Hugh is based in Westerham and will work across the south of England.

Beckie takes responsibility for developing relationships with London’s architect and design community and is based in Staverton’s Clerkenwell office. Beckie graduated from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.
