Celebrating Freedom with Staverton’s New Mobile Table

The modern workplace is on the move. Transient workforces, a range of different working styles and a whole host of changing technology have created offices in a constant state of flux. As a result the modern office needs flexibility at its core.

For a significant part of Staverton’s history, agile working has informed our approach to office furniture design – creating pieces that can adapt and flex with ease. Whether it’s a sit-stand desk to accommodate the preferences of a user throughout the working day, or designs which share componentry to enable retrofitting and repurposing in the future, our understanding of agility is central to what we do.

It’s against this backdrop that we have designed our newest piece of office furniture – the Freedom Table.

height-adjustable-meeting-table-for-agile-working

The Freedom Table is the very embodiment of what it is to work in an agile way. It features lockable castors, so it can be moved around the office with ease, and it is height adjustable, to accommodate the different needs of one or multiple users.

But perhaps its most innovative design feature is that it is equipped with a battery pack, which eliminates the need for connection to a fixed power socket. It also includes USB outlets to make it super easy to charge laptops and phones.

Jamie Wilson, Sales Director at Staverton said: “Freedom is central to the hybrid working concept as today’s employees want the freedom to choose how, when and where they work. Consequently they need workplaces and office furniture to support those behaviours. The Freedom table does just that because it’s multi-purpose, tech-ready, mobile and inclusive.”

The Freedom Table is the result of Staverton’s experienced team of in-house office furniture designers with input from the power specialists OE Electrics, who developed the ANIMATE click-and-connect battery power technology it uses. OE Electrics launched ANIMATE at the Workspace Design Show earlier this year with the help of a different Staverton product, the SOS2 mobile sit-stand desk.

Jamie at Staverton added: “It was a real pleasure to help OE Electrics with the launch of ANIMATE and then to collaborate with them as we developed the Freedom Table.”

“At Staverton we have always prided ourselves on integrating data and power into office furniture with ease, and we’re well known for clever and concealed cable management. The Freedom Table is an evolution of that, as it avoids the need for cables all together.”

The Freedom Table is available as:

Small Table

– 1800 x 900 (1185 frame)
– 2000 x 1000 (1385 frame)
– 2400 x 1000 (1785 frame)

Large Team Table

– 1600 x 1600 (1185 frame)
– 2000 x 1400 (1385 frame)
– 2400 x 1600 (1785 frame)

We offer a selection of standard worksurface options, including wood grain MFC and 10 plain colours, with the choice of 3D Ply edging and frame colour in black or white.

Jamie concluded: “A mobile workforce needs mobile furniture with power. A mobile workforce needs the Freedom Table.”

Our Scrumwall Solution Is a Mixology 23 Finalist!

We are thrilled to reveal that Scrumwall is a finalist for Product of the Year at the Mixology 2023 Awards!

Scrumwall is a highly customisable and flexible space-defining structure that supports scrum-led working in the agile office. It houses AV capability discretely and can support standing or sitting-height tables and storage.

Designed to give organisations the collaborative and flexible office furniture they need, Scrumwall has been met with rave reviews from Staverton clients, contemporaries and workplace designers – so we’re delighted to know it stands out to the Mixology judges too.

Paul Edward, Managing Director of Staverton said: “Solving client’s furniture challenges is what we’re all about at Staverton – but knowing our industry peers recognise our work and the creativity of our designs is super special too. We are very happy to have been shortlisted in such a strong award category.”

Initially, Scrumwall was created for Flutter plc’s workforce (more here) to define activity-based work settings on open-plan floorplates in an agile way – a challenge that many businesses will most certainly relate to.

Paul added: “We wanted Scrumwall to suit different space requirements, meeting styles and aesthetics so we made the decision to use modular design. The result is a highly flexible piece of British office furniture that can meet the needs of a wide variety of users, as well as flex and adapt as organisational requirements change in the future.”

As well as bringing structure to open-plan spaces, Scrumwall supports standing-height tables for quick exchanges, integrated technology for project meetings, sitting-height desks for teamwork and credenzas for storage.

Paul concluded: “Now we have to wait until the 22nd of June when the winner is announced. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed. Wish us luck!”

What’s in Store at CDW 2022?

With Clerkenwell Design Week almost in touching distance and excitement building after a two-year hiatus – we can’t wait to throw open the doors to our newly refurbished showroom and launch three new ranges of British designed and manufactured office furniture.

Preview – Staverton’s refurbished showroom

We’ll be open throughout Clerkenwell Design Week (Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th May) from 10 to 5pm so you can experience the Staverton brand first-hand. Our three newest launches will be available to view and try with plenty of hospitality on hand.

One of our launches at Clerkenwell this year is Staverton Scrumwall – a new space-defining structure which supports workplace agility and scrum-led, team activities. Scrumwall is a free-standing version of our already successfully wall-mounted meeting room solution Staverton WW – and it is available in both single-sided and double-sided versions. Intended to help create distinct spaces within open-plan floor plates, Scrumwall also houses AV capability discretely, can support standing or sitting height tables and in true Staverton style – can be configured to suit a wide variety of space requirements and aesthetics. (You can find out more about Scrumwall and the project we first developed this for here).

We’re also launching Staverton TT, a super flexible product which also defines space and builds storage into the office. This modular grid-based shelving system has several exclusive features including six sizes of grid building blocks for more configurations and a mobile option with wheels, plus it’s available in a selection of insert finishes in wood and plain colours, as well as acoustic fabrics. You can also add lockers, cabinets, planters, standing tables, desks, whiteboards, TVs and a whole lot more for the ultimate personalisation.

Our third and final launch is the newly updated SOS2 – our sit-stand desk.

We launched our first SOS sit-stand desk in 2014 and since then have used our experience and insights as a sit-stand desk manufacturer to refine its design. Its new features improve choice, aid workplace agility, maintain the design aesthetic and reduce cost.

Staverton SOS2 retains all the functionality and benefits of our original SOS sit-stand desk and includes significant new features such as a mobile option for agile working, hot-swappable actuators to enable easy conversion between fixed and height-adjustable positions, intermediate legs to reduce the cost on linked bench runs and retrofittable links to allow for easy reconfiguration of desk clusters.

There is also a sliding top option for easy cable access at rear of workstation as well as an 18mm fixed-top option, which facilitates the use of a wider variety of finishes.

Cable management has also been given careful design consideration with SOS2. It has improved and scalable features including standard and high-capacity lower cable management, an upper cable basket option to reduce costs, standard and high-capacity upper trays as well as leg frame cladding to hide cable ingress.

Can You Scrum in Your Workplace?

As the workplace assumes its new role as a hub for collaboration and community – it presents new office furniture requirements and in particular, the need to help people coalesce with ease.

Scrumwall-free-standing-space-defining-structure-workplace-agility-scrum-led-team-activities

Employee collaboration dropped 37%[1] during the pandemic. So, after almost two years of working in isolation, there is an overwhelming need for sociability, togetherness and inclusion, not just for employees but organisations too. Consequently, offices are being redesigned to meet these new requirements and offer the employee experiences that home-working simply cannot.

Helping people to coalesce easily is crucial to business for a variety of reasons – it maximises the serendipitous opportunities that arise when people are together, facilitates quick exchanges of ideas, builds relationships and bonds, improves knowledge sharing, creates energy and atmosphere and perhaps crucially of all – offers the agility that is so important in the new post covid workplace.

Employees really value being able to collaborate easily too. 75%[2] of employees consider collaboration and teamwork as very important, plus employees are typically 17%[3] more satisfied with their job when collaboration is part of their work and the organisation’s culture.

The financial benefits of improved collaboration are striking too. Collaboration is linked with increased sales, customer satisfaction and ratings, as well as being more innovative, productive and profitable than the businesses that don’t prioritise it. However, even with these compelling commercial gains – a study by Deloitte found that only 9%[4] of employees feel their workplace has all the collaboration tools they need. There is still work to do.

Set against this backdrop, we developed our new product Staverton Scrumwall. We designed it to give organisations the collaborative and flexible office furniture they need to make effective, relevant and agile workplaces. Initially, Scrumwall was created for a project with global sports betting, gaming and entertainment provider Flutter plc (you can read more about that here) to help them define activity-based work settings on open plan floorplates in an agile way – a challenge that many businesses will most certainly relate to.

Scrumwall-free-standing-space-defining-structure-workplace-agility-scrum-led-team-activities

Scrumwall is a free-standing version of our already successfully wall-mounted meeting room solution Staverton WW – and it is available in both single-sided and double-sided versions.

Perhaps its most significant design feature is that it can be configured to suit a wide variety of different space requirements, meeting styles and aesthetics. A range of modular components make it possible to customise the size, function and look of Scrumwall – so it can support standing height tables for quick exchanges, integrated technology for project meetings, sitting height desks for teamwork and credenzas (with or without doors) for storage.

Scrumwall-free-standing-space-defining-structure-workplace-agility-scrum-led-team-activities

Scrumwall supports worksurfaces in a variety of shapes and sizes. Face panels are available in different materials and finishes including dry wipe whiteboard, fabric upholstered and MFC to ensure maximum choice, plus they can be mixed and matched to create the perfect configuration.

Discreet cable management is always a key design consideration for Staverton, so Scrumwall offers worksurface-to-floor cable management thanks to our carefully designed cable duct with removable cover. The panels we’ve designed to mount TVs and monitors continue the theme, as they also ensure cables are hidden behind the panel.

It is because it’s been designed to bring structure and definition to space, that it offers much more value than just a piece of office furniture. It provides visual cues as to how spaces should be used, supports a wider variety of working styles and behaviours and offers all-important longevity, which means as needs change, the furniture can flex and adapt.

Scrumwall-free-standing-space-defining-structure-workplace-agility-scrum-led-team-activities

Staverton is well known for being a UK office furniture designer and manufacturer, a sit-stand desk manufacturer and a workstation supplier – but most of all we are problem-solvers with an innate knowledge of how changing workplace behaviours require more from agile office furniture solutions. Scrumwall is the perfect embodiment of that, and we will proudly launch it at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week, where we’ll invite workplace designers, workplace transformation leads and facility managers to experience it first-hand.

So, as the return to the workplace continues – it must be ready to encourage and support collaboration in spades. It really is time to ask yourself, can you scrum in your workplace?

Thinking ESG: Five Things We’ve Learned About Embracing Sustainability

With ESG (environmental, social and governance) goals a key priority for shareholders and consumers alike and scope three emissions an increasing area of concern, business leaders must ensure their behaviours and those of their supply chains stand up to scrutiny.

As a business renowned for the design and manufacture of high quality, British office furniture – we take our environmental responsibilities seriously and strive to help our clients do the same.

We know the old saying ‘we are judged by the company you keep’ is particularly true in this context. A growing number of businesses are seeking suppliers and partners with strong green credentials in order to bolster their own sustainability stories, minimise scope three emissions and provide greater reassurance to customers.

In terms of product design and manufacture, this means clients increasingly want to know which materials are recycled and in what quantities, whether sustainability has informed design, the operational habits of the whole supply chain and how all of this impacts waste production and carbon emissions.

With this in mind, and because sustainability has been hugely important to Staverton for a number of years, we thought we’d share five key facts about our commitment to responsible office furniture design and manufacture and how we can help you achieve your ESG goals:

1. We set goals and hold ourselves to account.

Over the past year, we are proud we have recycled 98.5% of the waste we generate. Our aim is to increase this to 99% by next year. This is one of several goals and benchmarks we’ve shared with our employees and clients (you can see more of them here). Setting goals helps us to keep striving for continuous improvement and to ensure that we maintain our reputation for high quality and British-made office furniture.

2. We audit our supply chain.

Each year we conduct an environmental and social assessment of our suppliers based on the ISO14001 Environmental Management System framework. By doing this we are assured that all of our suppliers and partners not only share our environmental goals, but can document their claims, demonstrate their progress and show accountability. This helps us to offer our interior design and facilities clients the ultimate proof they are making a sustainable choice with Staverton.

3. We think about the whole life.

For a brand like ours that stands for quality, adaptability and durability – it’s crucial that we consider the whole life of our products (from choosing raw materials through to manufacture, distribution and consumption). Our ability to design office furniture that can be reconfigured to meet clients’ changing requirements is one example of thinking about the whole life. Products such as our bold storage and partition system Staverton TT (more here) and our work as a leading sit-stand desk manufacturer (see Staverton SOS here) show how flexibility can deliver longevity, which means less need to buy new furniture. When furniture does come to the end of its life – we make sure that furniture either goes to second-hand furniture dealers, is sent for refurbishment or is broken into its constituent parts for recycling (typically steel, aluminium, cardboard, MFC wood).

4. We know that small changes add up.

Small changes make a big difference, especially when you make enough of them.  We’ve drilled into the detail of our designs to see how we can improve things – either in terms of our behaviours, material sourcing or design. For example, we know that choosing suppliers that are local to our factory and/or our client projects helps us to reduce road-related carbon, as does planning deliveries so that old furniture is collected as new furniture is handed over and assembling furniture on-site to allow van capacity to be used more wisely. We also know that seemingly small decisions – such as choosing to use water-based glues, solvent-free paint for metal and recyclable materials for screens – all make incremental improvements too. Small changes matter.

5. We have sustainability in our brand DNA

As a leading British office furniture manufacturer, we have always been committed to solving challenges with innovative furniture design. In essence, reducing environmental impact is just another one of those challenges. We know that clever design helps organisations to make better furniture choices; choices that will benefit the world at large, as well as individual businesses and their employees. We are more than just a workstation supplier, a manufacturer of benching workstations or a British office furniture manufacturer – we are a socially-conscious business that recognises its environmental responsibilities. We are striving to make a positive change.

Supporting Agility with Office Furniture

The workplace changes of the last two years have been seismic. In the wake of the pandemic, businesses now recognise the need to embrace agile and hybrid working in order to best support their operations and employees.

Office furniture has an important role to play in making workplace agility possible – it helps to define different activity-based work settings and zones, supports the very essence of how work is done and creates more desirable and well-equipped environments for an increasingly discerning workforce.

It’s one of the reasons why Staverton’s office furniture design and manufacturing expertise was called on to support global sports, betting and entertainment provider Flutter Entertainment Plc.

Flutter’s reinvention of its new global headquarters in Dublin, designed and built by Claremont, provided a perfect opportunity for British office furniture manufacturer Staverton to showcase its expertise solving workspace challenges with innovative furniture design.

As well as providing Flutter with office furniture for their temporary home during the 18-month build of their new 136,000 sq. ft home, Staverton was also tasked with designing and manufacturing a number of large space-defining structures to support scrum-led activities.

office-furniture-workstation-supplier-manufacturer-tables

Staverton Scrumwall

The brief was to create agile and tech-compatible project dashboards to help Flutter’s numerous teams with collaboration and project meetings. The solution had to be flexible so it can be set up as required, provide greater definition of space and house AV capability discretely.

office-furniture-workstation-supplier-manufacturer-tables

Staverton TT

Building on Staverton’s existing wall-mounted meeting room solution WW – which incorporated TV mounting, acoustic panels, writable surfaces and space for AV equipment – the team set about designing a free-standing version. The product development process, which needed to include single and double-sided versions of the product, was fast-tracked over a few weeks.

Offering even greater flexibility than the brief initially required, Staverton’s Scrumwall also supports standing or sitting height tables, which can be connected at various points.

office-furniture-workstation-supplier-manufacturer-tables

Staverton ‘free-standing’ Scrumwall

Paul Edward, Staverton’s Managing Director said: “We have become the principal furniture supplier to Flutter companies and have been helping the business transition to more agile ways of working over the last five years.”

“Flutter’s new Dublin home is the very embodiment of agility and is an incredibly dynamic and modern space. The new Scrumwall product not only shows that furniture increasingly needs to fulfil a variety of different uses, but also that creative and bespoke solutions can add real value, particularly in workspaces with a very distinct sense of place and brand.”

As a leading sit-stand desk manufacturer, and the first company in Europe to design and manufacture a mobile sit-stand workstation for the commercial market, Staverton really understands the importance of agility – both in terms of offering choice and flexibility, as well as encouraging employees to be less sedentary.

Paul added: “The double-sided version of Scrumwall provides even greater flexibility for Flutter – as while a team is collaborating on one side, people can participate in standing meetings or sit at tables on the other. The beauty of Scrumwall is that it can be configured to suit business users’ needs – a fact that will almost certainly guarantee its popularity and long-term use.”

“At Staverton we are more than just a workstation supplier or a manufacturer of workstations and tables – we relish the opportunity to solve workplace challenges and to show how we can design and manufacture office furniture to suit clients’ specific needs. This project demonstrates this ethos perfectly.”

Flutter’s new Dublin home spans six floors and features a rich blend of activity-based work settings and large collaborative spaces, as well as an indoor football pitch in the newly built atrium, studio spaces, a mock-up shop, a frictionless retail store, relaxation and gaming areas and an on-site café.

Staverton Ranks Highly on Google

In 2020, we set some challenging objectives. These included reducing our website’s bounce rate, achieving a higher ranking in search engines’ organic results, and improving our website’s content to enhance your experience with us.

Our website redesign, SEO, and overall marketing strategy included:

  • two product configurators
  • an interactive showroom tour
  • a filter to reduce eye discomfort
  • fresh case studies and client testimonials
  • new titles, copy, animations, videos, imagery, and brand colours
  • Heightened Thinking: the internet’s first blog dedicated to sit-stand solutions
  • the Sustainability page, the Content Lab page, and new menu

And there are some fantastic things still about to emerge. The great news is that we’ve already seen some significant results, and we’re delighted that our website ranks on Google’s highly desired first page.

You can now find us on Google and other web browsers by searching ‘desk manufacturers’, ‘mobile office furniture’, ‘workstation supplier’, ‘bench workstations’ and ‘designer office desk manufacturers’.

Our site also comes up when searching for more general terms, such as ‘office furniture manufacturer’. There are more search variants under which you can find out, but the word ‘manufacturer’ seems to be key.

How have we achieved this?

“With a bit of technical magic”, explained our Marketing Manager, Carlo Delucchi. “But it’s mostly thanks to being a renowned brand with super products delivered to the likes of BT, BBC, Burberry, Sky, TalkTalk, and Flutter”.

As part of Clerkenwell Open, we will host a limited-capacity talk from architect and interior designer Giuseppe Boscherini, whose services we were lucky enough to acquire to design our showroom in 2019.

Giuseppe will be talking about adaptation, mitigation and resilience, and how, as designers, we must be courageous in reframing the professional, intellectual and operational models we’ve been used to and dependant on.

To ensure everyone’s safety and comfort, we’d appreciate it if you could wear a face-covering during the talk. We have 20 tickets for grabs, and you can RSVP here <<<

N.B. Be sure to leave some room for a light lunch after Guiseppe has shared his wisdom.

Together: The LGBTQIA+ Community and Staverton

Here at Staverton, helping the environment and the LGBTQIA+ community are two causes close to our heart.

When the UK was plunged into lockdown 2/3 during autumn 2020, we were introduced to Switchboard — a charity that’s supported the LGBTQIA+ community since 1974 and the issues they continue to face.

Switchboard provides information, support and referral services for lesbians, gay men, bisexual and trans people — and anyone considering issues around their sexuality and/or gender identity.

In a joint effort between the architectural practice Hawkins Brown, the sports betting, gaming and entertainment provider Flutter, and ourselves, we donated pre-loved furniture to the charity.

We all wanted to support the LGBTQIA+ community and help the environment by ensuring the used furniture didn’t go to waste — a service we provide to all our clients.

Switchboard is a 100% confidential and helpline, and all of the charity’s volunteers self-define as LGBTQIA+. You can find out more about how they can help here, or if you need someone to talk to, call 0300 330 060.
